Welcome to the Centre for Aboriginal Studies
The Centre for Aboriginal Studies (CAS) is a culturally safe space of learning for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and non-Indigenous students. Our Centre maintains three Elders on staff and shares a culturally significant Midgegoroo meeting place, that signifies the Aboriginal Resistance Warrior and his son Yagan. Established in 1974, the Centre has been at the forefront of educational change through the development of innovative programs and policy.
Our Indigenous portfolio aligns with the vision, strategic objectives, and performance of Indigenous education at CAS.
The Centre now has the greatest concentration of qualified Aboriginal people in Australia. We employ over 90 percent Indigenous staff and build emergent, future leaders that drive Indigenous governance and implement change.

Indigenous governance and leadership
We promote Indigenous governance through building our future leaders, and we ensure that the philosophies of self-determination and self-management are actively practised. Our policy is based on a firm foundation of Aboriginal community involvement: a two-way circulation of ideas, influences and practices that ensures culturally appropriate education.
We also develop leaders who give back to their community and mob. CAS Alumni Kim Collard gives back to his local community through business and empowering others.
