Efficient and accurate dedispersion algorithms are critical for fast transient search pipelines. The Fast Dispersion Measure Transform (FDMT) algorithm is a popular algorithm employed by some of the leading FRB surveys currently. I’ll discuss the limitations of the FDMT algorithm and characterize the loss in signal-to-noise recovery for different pulse morphologies. Additionally, I’ll be presenting a new generalized implementation of the FDMT algorithm, called the Efficient Summation of Arbitrary Masks (ESAM), which promises 100% recovery of the signal-to-noise for all desired and arbitrary pulse morphologies. I’ll discuss the computation cost associated with the algorithm and compare its performance and costs with other existing dedispersion algorithms commonly used by the FRB community.
