eResearch is broadly defined as research that involves the use of significant computing, data, communication, visualization, analytics or online collaboration. This page provides an overview of eResearch tools, resources, and services available to Curtin researchers.
Altmetric Explorer
The Altmetric Explorer is a digital database that enables users to monitor and report on the online activity of the research outputs of individual Curtin researchers, research groups or schools. Users can generate customisable reports and alerts on the engagement specific research and researchers generate in social media, emedia, patents and policy documents.

Cloudstor
Cloudstor is a super-fast file sharing and cloud storage system designed for researchers. As an AARNet-connected institution, Curtin can offer each of its researchers access to one terabyte of free storage. Cloudstor is not appropriate for sharing and storing confidential or sensitive information.

The Commercialisation team works closely with Curtin researchers to assess the commercial viability of their novel concepts and inventions, and the best method of bringing them to market.

Curtin Institute for Data Science
The Curtin Institute for Data Science (CIDS) was established to meet the increasing demand for computational modelling, data analytics and visualisation. The CIDS initiates and fosters collaborative, interdisciplinary research and education programs with researchers. The CIC computational specialists assist in applying computational methods across all of Curtin’s research disciplines to provide innovative solutions to complex problems.

Curtin Library databases
Curtin Library databases include collections and indexes of journal articles and other content across all research subjects, providing either full-text or citation information. The databases are accessible to all Curtin staff and students.

Curtin Research Data Collection
Curtin researchers can publish their data to the Curtin Research Data Collection, managed by the Curtin University Library, which helps them to comply with publisher and funder data-sharing policies, and improve research impact and reach.

Elements
Elements is Curtin’s publication management system. It automatically harvests researchers’ online publications for ARC reporting purposes and feeds them into researchers’ profiles. It collects publications from various online data sources and also allows for manual entry. Publications in Elements may be displayed in Curtin researchers’ profiles.

Graduate Research Advanced Skills Program
The Graduate Research Advanced Skills Program (GRASP) helps higher degree by research students develop transferable skills in critical thinking, reading, researching and writing. The program offers students access to online resources and the chance to attend workshops, seminars and writing groups.

MATLAB and Simulink
MATLAB® is a proprietary software package that combines a desktop environment tuned for iterative analysis and design processes with a programming language that expresses matrix and array mathematics directly. Curtin students now have access to MATLAB, Simulink and additional products by MathWorks campus-wide, and can be downloaded from the Curtin University’s MATLAB Portal. Free, self-paced training is provided by Mathworks.
Nvivo
Nvivo is text analysis software designed for qualitative researchers. As a data management tool, it has coding, linking, querying, searching and modelling capacities. Nvivo is available to Curtin researchers with support resources provided.

ORCID
ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) is a persistent digital identifier for researchers that links together research outputs and activities. It enables researchers to share information on a global scale, and can be linked to Curtin’s Elements system to help distinguish the works of Curtin researchers.

OneDrive for Business
OneDrive for Business is Curtin’s preferred and supported cloud file sharing tool. OneDrive for Business gives Curtin employees the ability to easily and securely share information, whether it be individual files or entire folders, with University colleagues as well as external collaborators. Pawsey Supercomputing Centre
Pawsey Supercomputing Centre is situated at Technology Park in Kensington, Western Australia. Pawsey offers supercomputing, cloud service, data and visualisation, and training and expert advice. For further information, check out the Pawsey Supercomputing Centre website.

Python
Python is a programming language that lets you work more quickly and integrate your systems more effectively. It can be downloaded from the Python Software Foundation website. The Curtin Institute for Computation (CIC) collaborates with Software Carpentry to provide introductory workshops in python- upcoming training events and workshops can be found in the CIC training page.

Qualtrics
Qualtrics is a cloud-based survey tool to conduct survey research, data collection and data analysis activities. Qualtrics is available to Curtin researchers by logging in with their Curtin University ID and password. R
R is a free software environment for statistical computing and graphics. It compiles and runs on a wide variety of UNIX platforms, Windows and MacOS. It can be downloaded from the R Project website. Research Bazaar
The Research Bazaar (ResBaz) is a worldwide festival promoting the digital literacy emerging at the centre of modern research. Perth’s ResBaz is a low-cost, 3-day intensive festival and (un-)conference where researchers come together to up-skill in next generation digital research tools and scholarship. In the spirit of a marketplace or bazaar, ResBaz is a highly participatory event where researchers from many different disciplines can learn, share knowledge and skills, and have fun.

Research Data Champions
The Research Data Champion program aims to build a collaborative and diverse community of research data experts to drive uptake of good research data management practice and improve discipline-specific research data management support for Curtin researchers.

Research Data Management Planning Tool
Curtin’s Research Data Management Planning Tool (RDMPT) helps researchers to create their own data management plan, taking them step-by-step through the requirements. Researchers must create a data management plan using the tool in order to request access to the Research Drive.

Curtin provides hands-on research data management sessions to help researchers create data management plans using the DMP Tool. These sessions are aimed at research staff and students preparing for candidacy or ethics applications.

SPSS
Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) is statistical software used for complex data analysis. It includes user guides for different levels of experience, including how to enter data, conduct statistical tests and manipulate data. It is available to Curtin researchers for download with support resources provided.

SUFEX
SUFEX is a secure file transfer service for the safe transmission of data files. It uses a secure online application that allows users to send and receive files from anywhere at any time. SUFEX is intended for file transmission and is not suitable for file storage. The infrastructure and environment has ISO27001 certification.

SWAN
Scopus
Scopus is a large abstract and citation database that indexes more than 36,000 journals, books and conference proceedings across science, engineering, health sciences and humanities disciplines. It includes links to full-text where available, allowing for basic bibliometric profiling and analysis. It is accessible to all Curtin staff and students.

SeRP@Curtin
SeRP is a secure e-research platform developed by Swansea University which allows researchers and data custodians to manage, store, share, analyse and link sensitive research data in a fully governed and highly secure environment. Our implementation, known as SeRP@Curtin, comprises infrastructure, software, systems and analytical tools such as R and SAS. It also has integrated linkage capabilities performed by LinXmart, software developed by the Centre for Data Linkage.

Software and Data Carpentry
The Curtin Institute for Computation (CIC) collaborates with Software Carpentry and Data Carpentry to teach researchers basic lab skills and to provide high-quality, domain-specific training that covers the full life-cycle of data-driven research. Web of Science
The Web of Science citation database houses multidisciplinary information from tens of thousands of high impact journals, conference proceedings and books. It includes full-text where available and is accessible to all Curtin researchers; users will need to register with the database to access some tools such as EndNote.

espace
Curtin’s institutional repository, espace, is an open access digital collection containing the research output of Curtin staff and students. It includes theses, journal articles, conference papers, book chapters and grey literature. The collection preserves Curtin’s research output and increases its research exposure and impact by making it visible and freely available through services such as Google, Trove and OAIster.
